NDPiD Organises Symposium

To Honours Late Major Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro in London, United Kingdom

NDPiD held a symposium themed ‘Boro’s Legacy: 50 Years On, An Evaluation of the Challenges and Opportunities for Niger Delta Development’

The event attracted notable sons and daughters of the Niger Delta from far and wide among whom were Ambassador Godknows Igali, former Nigerian Ambassador to the Scandinavian Countries. Mr. Rowland Ekperi, former President Ijaw Peoples Association of Great Britain and Ireland, Engr. Udengs Eradiri, former President Ijaw Youth Council worldwide; Mr. MacDonald I.J. Mopho, a lawyer and author; and friends of the Niger Delta. The event brought all these people together to celebrate an icon who dedicated most of his life to pursue a cause that will foster inclusion, equality, and fairness for the Niger Delta region from the Nigerian Nation.

The symposium featured lectures around many subjects focusing on the Niger Delta, most importantly the issue of environmental pollution resulting from poorly managed oil exploration activities by the multinational oil companies.

Boro as he was fondly called was born in Oloibiri, Bayelsa state, Nigeria. Died at the age of 29 on the 9th May 1968 following gun shot wounds in Ogu, Okirika, Rivers State, Nigeria.

“Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted, the indifference of those who should have known better, the silence of the voice  of justice when it mattered most, that has made it possible for evil to triumph” – Haile Selassie 1
